LSU Football: Tigers will have more depth at QB against Texas A&M
By Zach Ragan
LSU football has had some tough luck at the quarterback position this year.
Redshirt junior quarterback Myles Brennan, who has been battling an abdomen injury since the Tigers’ loss to Missouri earlier this season, won’t play for LSU football this weekend against Texas A&M.
And it’s possible that Brennan won’t play again this season.
LSU head coach Ed Orgeron said this week that no final decision has been made on Brennan’s status for the rest of the year. But with the Tigers out of contention in the SEC West, it seems unlikely that Brennan will return this season.
On top of Brennan’s injury, LSU has also been dealing with the absence of true freshman quarterback Max Johnson, who has been in quarantine for two weeks.
Fortunately for the Tigers, though, Johnson is expected to return this week for the matchup against the Aggies.

True freshman TJ Finley will once again be the Tigers’ starter with Brennan still out.
Finley’s had some up-and-down moments this year (the Auburn game didn’t go so well for Finley), but he’s coming off an encouraging performance in LSU’s win against Arkansas last weekend.
For now, there’s no doubt that Finley is the go-to guy for the Tigers. But LSU also wants to get Johnson some action as well. It’s extremely important that both quarterbacks are developed.
Plus, Finley is still a true freshman. It’s entirely possible that he comes out against Texas A&M and is completely ineffective. Having Johnson ready to go will give the Tigers some security at the quarterback position.
If Johnson wasn’t going to be able to play, it would leave punter Zach Von Rosenberg as the primary backup for LSU.
As fun as it would be to see the 30-year-old punter get some action at quarterback, it probably wouldn’t go well against one of the top teams in the nation.
