LSU football head coach Ed Orgeron forced to rely on true freshmen quarterbacks.

LSU football’s offense didn’t do much in its loss to Texas A&M this past weekend.

In fact, the Tigers’ offense could best be described as “abysmal”.

LSU scored only seven points against the Aggies. And they only accumulated 267 total yards (231 one of those came through the air).

One of the main reasons LSU wasn’t able to find much offensive success against Texas A&M is because the Tigers are being forced to rely on a pair of true freshmen at quarterback (thanks to Myles Brennan’s abdomen injury).

TJ Finley got the start for the Tigers against the Aggies, but he was pulled at one point in favor of Max Johnson.

On Monday, during a virtual media session with reporters, Coach O explained why he pulled Finley for Johnson.

And it wasn’t necessarily because Finley wasn’t getting the job done.

According to Orgeron, pulling Finley for Johnson was the plan all week. LSU wanted to try some quarterback runs with Johnson (via Brooks Kubena).

Johnson didn’t find much success running the ball (eight attempts for -4 yards with a long of 9 yards), but he was fairly effective through the air. He completed 14-of-22 passes for 113 yards and a touchdown, while Finley only completed 9-of-25 passes for 118 yards and two interceptions.

It would be wise for LSU to continue to play both quarterbacks the rest of the season. LSU isn’t going anywhere with Brennan out and players like Terrace Marshall Jr opting out.

Next. Ed Orgeron needs to make a Nick Saban like move. dark

The best course of action is for Finley and Johnson to both get as many reps as possible. The Tigers will be a better team in 2021 because of it.
