LSU football is among the top programs for a four-star running back.

2021 four-star running back Armoni Goodwin is one of the top recruits in the nation and LSU football is in the mix to land him.

Goodwin, 5-foot-8/190 lbs from Trussville, AL, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 5 running back in the nation and the No. 4 player in the state of Alabama. He’s also rated as the No. 78 overall 2021 recruit in the nation.

The Alabama native committed to Auburn on May 22, 2019.

On Monday evening, Goodwin announced that he’s no longer committed to Auburn.

“I was overwhelmed and think that I rushed into committing,” wrote Goodwin in a tweet on Monday.

“I just want to explore my options,” added Goodwin.

LSU football could make a splash with Goodwin

Goodwin spoke to Rivals about his recruitment after his decommitment and he revealed his current top five programs.

“I have a top five of LSU, Florida State, Georgia, Alabama and Auburn,” said Goodwin.

It’s certainly an odd time for Goodwin to decommit from Auburn (just before early signing day, after calling Auburn his dream school).

If LSU wants to become a major factor here, they could make a major splash.

247Sports national writer Charles Power describes Goodwin as a “versatile offensive weapon with the ability to rip off long gains by using his speed and compact build to run through contact”.

Power also notes that Goodwin “projects as a Power Five starter with the potential to develop into an NFL Draft pick”.

Goodwin is clearly an extremely talented player. LSU should make a run here. They’re in good shape with their 2021 recruiting class at the moment, but you can never have enough talent in a recruiting class.
