LSU football’s had a tough 2020 season.

LSU football isn’t going to repeat as national champions this season.

Entering the final week of the season, the best the Tigers can hope for is to finish with a 5-5 record (LSU takes on Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss this weekend).

But while this season hasn’t been fun, there’s reason for encouragement moving forward (especially after the Tigers’ upset win of the Florida Gators this past weekend).

And it all has to do with who played this season, not necessarily how they played.

LSU football has plenty of young talent.

LSU’s win against Florida was undoubtedly the program’s best win of the season.

And it came a week after it felt like the team was completely falling apart.

Despite the perceived turmoil in the locker room and key players like Terrace Marshall Jr and Arik Gilbert opting out, the Tigers managed to turn in their best performance of the season.

28 sophomore and freshmen played in LSU’s win against Florida.

28!

Playing 15 sophomores and freshmen isn’t a recipe for success against a top 10 team.

Playing 28 sophomores and freshmen against a top 10 team is just asking for a beatdown (which is what ESPN thought would happen).

This is why fans should be feeling good about where LSU football is heading. 2020 was a trying season, but the program is trending the right way.

On top of the great young talent already on the team, the Tigers are on the verge of adding a top-five recruiting class.

LSU currently has the No. 4 rated recruiting class in the nation. They could finish even higher than that if they add five-star defensive lineman Maason Smith on Wednesday (the first day of the early signing period).

The future is bright in Baton Rouge. Don’t let a couple of losses during a weird season have you thinking otherwise.
