LSU football recently hired Jake Peetz, who most recently served as the Carolina Panthers’ quarterbacks coach, as their new offensive coordinator.

Peetz came to Baton Rouge on the recommendation of former Tigers passing game coordinator Joe Brady.

Ed Orgeron wants LSU to go back to the offense they ran in 2019 with Brady, so it makes perfect sense to hire Peetz (along with DJ Mangas, a former LSU analyst who will take Brady’s old job as passing game coordinator).

Peetz spent the 2020 season working under Brady (now the offensive coordinator for the Panthers) in Charlotte.

But how long will Peetz be at LSU?

Someone will attempt to steal Jake Peetz from LSU football

I’ve mentioned several times that LSU could be in danger of losing Peetz before he even coaches a game for the Tigers.

If Brady ends up getting an NFL head coaching job, I wouldn’t be surprised if he calls up Peetz and asks him to come along.

Peetz can leave LSU for a job in the NFL without owing LSU any money.

That’s just one way Peetz could get poached.

I could also see Alabama’s Nick Saban eventually trying to lure Peetz away, too.

Saban is in the process of hiring former Houston Texans head coach Bill O’Brien to serve as the Crimson Tide’s new offensive coordinator (to replace Steve Sarkisian, who recently became the head coach at Texas).

I doubt O’Brien will work as an offensive coordinator at the collegiate level for long. He’ll quickly be scooped by someone for a head coaching gig.

If that happens, then I wouldn’t be surprised if Saban makes Peetz one of his top targets.

That’s because Peetz and Saban have history together.

The recently hired LSU offensive coordinator worked as an offensive analyst at Alabama in 2013. Peetz also spent the 2018 season in Tuscaloosa as an offensive analyst.

If Peetz is successful in 2021 in Baton Rouge, he’ll be a hot commodity. And Saban will probably be one of the folks making phone calls trying to steal him from LSU.

Another DC option from NFL emerges for LSU. dark. Next

Would Peetz leave? I think it’s way too early to speculate. But anytime Alabama is involved, it’s a possibility.
