LSU Football: Tigers recruiting target sets commitment date
By Zach Ragan
One of LSU football‘s top 2022 recruiting targets now has a planned commitment date.
Mykel Williams, 6-foot-5/255 lbs from Columbus, GA, told Rivals that he plans to announce his commitment on March 15.
“I will be committing March 15, for my dad’s birthday,” said Williams to Rivals. “My dad and I have a great connection, he has been there from the beginning.”
Williams is rated as the No. 4 defensive tackle in the nation, which means he has a lot of suitors.
Alabama, Arizona State, Clemson, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Penn State, Ohio State,, and USC are the other teams in Williams’ top 10.
Where does LSU football stand in the battle for Williams?
While Williams has a top 10, it appears that his choice will come down to Clemson, Georgia, LSU, Ohio State, and USC.
“It is close between those schools,” said Rivals. “All those schools have great coaches, they have recruited me hard and I know a lot about those schools.”
For now, it’s hard to tell what direction Williams is leaning. He told Rivals that there’s one school that he has a “feel for”.
“I have a feel for a specific school right now, but I am not all the way there yet,” said Williams.
Unfortunately, I think this could be a hard kid for LSU to land.
It’s not easy to pull elite talent out of Georgia. The Bulldogs usually get first dibs. And then there’s the Clemson factor, too. The fact that LSU didn’t have a defenisve coordinator for nearly a month (until Tuesday) probably doesn’t help here, either.
Recruiting can be crazy, so I wouldn’t rule the Tigers out. But I’d be surprised if LSU ended up winning this battle.
