PFF mock draft doesn’t do Joe Burrow any favors

Former LSU football quarterback Joe Burrow was on pace for a historic rookie season in 2020.

But then a devastating leg injury ended Burrow’s season prematurely.

It wasn’t a shock that Burrow ended up getting hurt this past season. The Cincinnati Bengals did an absolutely terrible job of protecting the top overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft.

After watching Burrow get beat up for most of the season, it’s clear that Cincinnati needs to invest in its offensive line before the 2021 season.

This is why the latest mock draft pick from Pro Football Focus — a company that I highly respect — doesn’t make much sense.

PFF doesn’t do Joe Burrow any favors with mock draft pick

The latest mock draft from Pro Football Focus has the Bengals selecting former LSU wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase with the No. 5 overall selection.

I get it. It would be really fun to see Chase and Burrow reunited in Cincinnati. Chase is undoubtedly one of the top players available in the 2021 NFL Draft. And he’ll probably be a top 10 selection.

But the Bengals shouldn’t draft Chase.

I know Pro Football Focus probably thinks they’re doing Burrow a favor by projecting Chase to Cincinnati. But they aren’t. In fact, this selection would only hurt Burrow.

Look, the Bengals have good wide receivers. Burrow had no problem finding playmakers in the offense last season. His only problem was staying on his feet.

That’s why Cincinnati has no choice but to select an offensive lineman with the No. 5 pick.

The best available offensive lineman needs to be the selection for the Bengals. There’s no other choice.

dark. Next. LSU now has a 5-star in 2021 recruiting class

Suggesting anything else for Cincinnati in this spot would be pure silliness. I’m sorry, Pro Football Focus. I love you guys, but you missed the mark on this one.
