LSU Football: Ed Orgeron completes his 2021 coaching staff

LSU football‘s 2021 coaching staff is complete after Ed Orgeron filled the final vacancy on Friday.
The Tigers officially announced the hiring of Andre Carter as LSU’s new defensive line coach.
“Andre was an outstanding defensive lineman for a long time in the NFL and now he’s translating what he did and learned as a player to those he’s coaching,” said Orgeron in a statement announcing the hire.
“With our entire defensive line coming back, they are going to be able to learn firsthand from an NFL veteran on what it takes to become a dominant player.”
Coach O added, “I’m excited to fill out our staff with Andre. I think we have assembled as fine a coaching staff as there is in college football.”
Andre Carter’s first on-field college job will be with LSU football
Carter has plenty of football experience, but when he steps on the sidelines in the season-opener against UCLA next fall, it will be his first time as an on-field college assistant.
The former California linebacker, who was a first-round pick in the 2001 NFL Draft, spent 13 seasons in the NFL from 2001-2013, playing with the Washington Football Team, San Francisco 49ers, New England Patriots, and the Oakland Raiders.
After Carter’s playing career was over, he returned to California to serve as a graduate assistant under Sonny Dykes. Carter then made the jump the NFL, joining the 49ers’ staff as a Bill Walsh NFL Diversity Coaching Fellowship Participant.

In 2017, Carter joined Adam Gase’s staff with the Miami Dolphins as an assistant defensive line coach. Carter followed Gase to the New York Jets in 2019 where he was promoted to defensive line coach.
Carter wasn’t retained by new Jets head coach Robert Selah.
