Former LSU football quarterback Joe Burrow is making it clear that he’d love to reunite with one of his former teammates.

Burrow, who was selected with the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals, participated in a live interview session with Fanatics this week. The former Tigers standout was asked about reuniting with former LSU wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase.

“I’d love to play with Ja’Marr,” said Burrow. “We’re still in contact all the time.”

“He’s a great dude and a great player. I’d love to have him on the team.”

Those comments echo what Burrow said earlier in January during a media session with reporters.

“Ja’Marr is a really good player,” said Burrow earlier this month. “It’s pretty easy to throw it to him when he has five yards of separation every snap.”

“He’s an exciting player and a great guy and a friend as well.”

Will the former LSU football duo be reunited?

I can certainly understand why Burrow would want to be reunited with Chase in the NFL.

The Burrow/Chase combination accounted for 84 receptions, 1780 yards, and 20 touchdowns in 2019. Impressive numbers that solidified Chase as a future top 10 NFL draft pick.

But while it would be fun to see the duo playing together in the NFL, it wouldn’t be the right move by the Bengals.

I’ve been pretty vocal about saying that Cincinnati absolutely cannot draft Ja’Marr Chase. I love him as a player, but he’s not what the Bengals need in this draft.

Cincinnati struggled mightily to protect Burrow in 2020 — it’s why the former LSU star had his rookie season cut short.

The Bengals have no choice but to select an offensive lineman with the No. 5 overall pick.

Any other decision would be doing Joe Burrow a huge disservice.

Having a player like Burrow, but not doing everything possible to keep him on his feet as much as possible would be a complete waste.
