LSU football is one of the teams to beat for a four-star offensive lineman from Miami.

Julian Armella, 6-foot-6/300 lbs, revealed his top seven schools this week.

And the Tigers made the cut, along with Alabama, Miami, Florida State, Clemson, Florida, and Ohio State.

Armella is ranked as the No. 14 offensive tackle in the 2022 recruiting class (247Sports composite).

LSU football will have a tough battle on its hands for Armella

Armella, as evidenced by his offer list, is a highly-sought after recruit.

The Florida native already has the frame to play in the SEC. Armella is the type of player that could start as a true freshman. He has the looks of a future first-round draft pick.

So where does LSU stand in this battle?

It’s still a bit too early to tell. But the Tigers are at least in this battle, thanks in part to Armella’s existing relationship with a couple of LSU players.

“I am close to Marcus Dumevile and Marlon Martinez, two guys I know really well, and I am still talking to them and hearing positive stuff about LSU,” said Armella to Rivals this week.

The talented four-star offensive tackle is also building a solid relationship with Tigers offensive line coach James Cregg.

“I have really connected with coach Cregg,” noted Armella. “We have a great relationship.”

Something else working in LSU’s favor is the Tigers’ recent hiring of Blake Baker as the program’s linebackers coach.

Baker, who was serving as Miami’s defensive coordinator, is likely familiar with Armella from his time with the Hurricanes (Miami is one of only two programs that Armella has visited, the other is Florida).

Next. LSU can't let in-state WR get away. dark

Armella says he’s going to take his time with his decision and enjoy the process, so I wouldn’t look for a decision anytime soon.
