LSU football will very likely be one of the teams to beat for a 2023 wide receiver from Florida.

Santana Fleming, 5-foot-11/170 lbs from Opa Locka, FL (Miami Carol City), recently spoke to Rivals about his recruitment and he had some positive things to say about the Tigers.

The dynamic wide receiver told Rivals that LSU was his “dream school” growing up.

“Their culture, their fan base, their games are always hyped and the atmosphere and they produce a lot of NFL talent at my position over the last couple years,” said Fleming.

LSU football will have a battle on its hands for Fleming

Being the “dream school” for Fleming will certainly give the Tigers an advantage in this recruiting battle, but it won’t necessarily make LSU the favorites to land the talented wide receiver.

There are plenty of other programs strongly pursuing Fleming.

The Florida native noted that Florida State, Penn State, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, and South Carolina are standing out for him right now. All of those programs have already extended an offer to Fleming.

Interestingly, the Tigers haven’t offered Fleming yet, but they have been in contact.

Could that come back to hurt LSU?

It definitely could. Recruiting is all about relationships and trust. Recruits remember who the first programs were to offer. And when those relationships and that trust has been built over years, it’s hard for other programs to overcome.

Now, there’s obviously a long way to go in this battle — Fleming still has two years of high school football remaining — there’s plenty of time for LSU to become the favorite here.

But it won’t happen just because they were Fleming’s dream school growing up. The Tigers are going to have to put in the work.
