Could Odell Beckham Jr and Tom Brady be on the same team in 2021?
By Zach Ragan
Former LSU football wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr has already been traded once in his career.
After the 2018 season, OBJ was traded from the New York Giants to the Cleveland Browns.
Could another trade be on the way?
It’s possible….at least according to ESPN’s Jeff Darlington.
Could Odell Beckham Jr and Tom Brady be teammates in 2021?
Darlington said this week that he believes Beckham’s name is one to watch this offseason when it comes to trade rumors.
And he specifically thinks that Tampa Bay — thanks to Beckham’s strong relationship with Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady — could be the team that deals for OBJ.
“These guys (Beckham and Brady) have been close for a number of years,” said Darlington this week on ESPN’s Get Up (via 247Sports). “They’ve expressed to each other the desire and wish to play together.”
Darlington noted that if Tampa Bay doesn’t re-sign wide receiver Chris Godwin (an unrestricted free agent this offseason), then it would make sense for the Bucs to trade for OBJ.
“The question when it really comes down to it, is Chris Godwin actually going to take less money if they’re not going to give him upwards of $20 million,” said Darlington. “If those things go down, I could certainly see them pursuing a guy like Odell Beckham Jr.”
Beckham played in 16 games for the Browns in 2019, catching 74 passes for 1,035 yards and four touchdowns.
This past season, the 28-year old wide receiver played in only seven games, thanks to a torn ACL he suffered in a game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
It would be fun to see OBJ suit up for the Bucs and catch passes from Brady, but I seriously doubt it happens. I can’t see Tampa Bay giving up much in a trade for a wide receiver coming off a serious knee injury. These trade scenarios are fun to debate, but they rarely play out as we envision.
