Former LSU football quarterback Joe Burrow shouldn’t have been the top overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft according to CBS Sports writer Chris Trapasso.

Trapasso recently decided to “redraft” the 2020 NFL Draft, based on the results of this past season.

And he wasn’t very kind to Burrow.

Trapasso had Burrow going to the Miami Dolphins with the No. 5 overall selection. He had the Cincinnati Bengals taking Justin Herbert with the No. 1 overall pick.

In the actual 2020 NFL Draft, Burrow was drafted No. 1 overall by the Bengals, while Herbert was selected with the No. 6 overall pick by the Los Angeles Chargers.

The disrespect for former LSU football QB Joe Burrow is real

I completely understand that Hebert out-performed his draft position.

But he still isn’t a better option for the Bengals than Burrow.

The only reason that Herbert won the offensive rookie of the year award is because Burrow was injured with six games remaining on the schedule.

At the time of his injury, Burrow was on pace to throw for 4,300 yards (Herbert passed for 4,366 yards while playing behind a much better offensive line). Even if Burrow doesn’t win the award, he at least splits votes with Herbert, which would’ve likely led to former LSU wide receiver Justin Jefferson winning the award (he should’ve won it anyway).

Burrow has the “it” factor that can’t be quantified. And there’s nothing I saw from him in 2020 (or didn’t see) to indicate that he’s anything but a future stud NFL quarterback.

I like Herbert a lot. He has a bright future ahead of him. But there’s no doubt in my mind that Burrow is the best quarterback in this draft class. Along with his natural talent, he’s an incredibly hard worker and one of the best young leaders I’ve seen in a long time.

In fact, I think he’s the best quarterback to come out of the draft since Patrick Mahomes in 2017.

Next. OBJ and Tom Brady on the same team?. dark

Sorry CBS Sports, you missed the mark on this one.
