When LSU basketball received a commitment from three-star shooting guard Brandon Murray, it didn’t generate many headlines.

Murray, 6-foot-5/200 lbs from Baltimore, MD (he attends IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL), is ranked in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 139 player in the country and the No. 31 shooting guard in the 2021 recruiting class.

The Maryland native is ranked around 70 spots lower than four-star center Jerrell Colbert, the highest-rated of the Tigers’ three 2021 basketball commits.

It’s easy to see why Murray isn’t receiving much hype.

But that could be changing soon (and it should).

LSU basketball got a steal in Brandon Murray

Murray is one of 10 2021 commits that 247Sports writer Eric Bossi believes could make a big jump in the 247Sports rankings in the very near future.

Bossi has been a fan of Murray since the first time he watched the dynamic shooting guard play in Baltimore. And he’s been consistently surprised that the LSU commit hasn’t received more attention.

“When I first saw Brandon Murray as a senior in Baltimore and as a member of the class of 2020, I was surprised that a kid who was as strong as he was and who could shoot it like he could didn’t really have a lot going on,” wrote Bossi this week.

“Had Murray played his prep year at IMG with an open recruitment, he’d be among the most heavily sought after players in the country,” added Bossi.

The 247Sports writer notes that Murray is a great shotmaker, with excellent size who is “advancing off the dribble”.

Those are obviously very desirable traits in a basketball player (and not very easy to find).

The most important that Bossi notes about Murray is that he has the strength to succeed in the SEC. It’s hard to survive in a competitive league if your body can’t absorb the beating of a regular-season schedule.

Murray, however, should have no issues there.

The Tigers got a good one here. And pretty soon the rest of the SEC will realize it.
