LSU Football: Ja’Marr Chase lands in AFC South after a trade in mock draft
By Zach Ragan
Former LSU football wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase is expected to be one of the top players selected in the 2021 NFL Draft.
A year ago, the assumption was that Chase would be the first wide receiver off the board in the draft.
But Chase’s decision to opt out, combined with Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith’s impressive 2020 season, has made Chase as the first wide receiver selected not quite a slam dunk.
Some analysts still prefer Chase — thanks to the fact that he’s built a bit bigger — over Smith. While others prefer the Alabama wide receiver over the former Tiger.
Where will former LSU football wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase land?
CBS Sports recently highlighted a potential draft-day trade scenario that involves the Miami Dolphins and Houston Texans.
Ty Dunne of GoLongTD.com pointed out a possible scenario where the Texans could trade Deshaun Watson to the Dolphins for the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 draft, a 2021 second-round pick, a 2022 first-round pick, a 2022 second-round pick, and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
With the No. 3 pick, Dunne has the Texans selecting Chase.
That would be quite a haul for the Texans. And pairing Chase with Tagovailoa, two players who competed against each other in the SEC West, would be very intriguing.
Chase with Tagovailoa would essentially be Houston’s new version of Watson and Deandre Hopkins (at least that would be the hope).
There are all kinds of scenarios floating around right now with the Texans and Watson (who desperately wants out of Houston).
I have no idea if this scenario has a legitimate chance of happening, but it would certainly be fun to see Chase and Tagovailoa paired together in Houston.
