LSU football ended the week on a high note by landing a commitment from 2022 four-star wide receiver AJ Johnson.

Johnson, 6-foot-4/205 lbs from New Orleans, LA (Isidore Newman), is ranked in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 33 wide receiver in the 2022 recruiting class. He’s also ranked as the No. 12 player in Louisiana.

The Louisiana native committed to the Tigers over offers from Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, and Miami, among several others.

Johnson plays at Isidore Newman with 2023 four-star quarterback Arch Manning, the top-rated quarterback in the 2023 recruiting class.

What does AJ Johnson bring to LSU football?

Johnson is a wide receiver that might actually be a bit underrated.

The dynamic wideout is extremely athletic (he also plays basketball) and he’s a tremendous route runner — advanced for his age.

Johnson has an impressive catch radius, which makes him a great red-zone target and a great move-the-chains type receiver.

But that’s not where Johnson’s talents end.

The talented wide receiver can also stretch the field. He reportedly runs the 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds, which is more than enough speed to elude defenders in the SEC.

Johnson is essentially a perfect fit for the Tigers. He’s a great in-state guy who can play at an extremely high level. These are the types of kids that Ed Orgeron and his staff can’t let slip away. LSU did a really nice job of locking Johnson down.

In addition to providing the Tigers with another quality player, there’s also a chance that Johnson could assist in LSU’s pursuit of Arch Manning, who is expected to take his time making his college decision.
