LSU football so far hasn’t been involved with three-star in-state defensive back Lorenzell Dubose, but that should probably change.

Dubose, 6-foot/170 lbs from Monroe, LA (Neville), is ranked in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 42 cornerback in the country. He’s also ranked as the No. 18 player in Louisiana.

The 2022 recruit has offers from Arkansas, Memphis, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, and Ole Miss.

It’s the recent offer from the Sooners that has me thinking the Tigers should start pursuing Dubose.

LSU football has to decide whether or not to pursue Lorenzell Dubose

LSU is in a tough spot when it comes to in-state recruits. The Tigers typically dominate in-state recruiting, but they can’t take them all.

For LSU to be successful, they need a healthy mix of in-state recruits and out-of-state recruits. The problem is that talented players on the “bubble” like Dubose often get passed over by the Tigers, and then go on to have major success elsewhere.

When that happens, it’s usually not a good look for LSU.

Is Dubose one of those players?

It’s hard to tell. Recruiting is tough — it’s why we see programs miss on elite players every year.

But the recent attention that’s been paid to Dubose by programs like Oklahoma and Mississippi State leads me to believe that LSU should take a closer look at the talented in-state cornerback.

Dubose is a solid cover cornerback who could provide the Tigers with great depth in their secondary. And maybe he could even develop into a starter for the program.

I’m not saying LSU should be all-in on Dubose, but they should at least extend an offer and get to know the young Louisiana native.
