Now that the 2021 recruiting cycle is finished (aside from transfers), LSU football can fully shift its focus to the 2022 recruiting class.

One of the 2022 recruits that LSU has their eye on is four-star wide receiver Sam Mbake.

Mbake, 6-foot-3/205 lbs from Snellville, GA (Brookwood), is ranked in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 36 wide receiver in the 2022 recruiting class.

He’s also ranked as the No. 26 overall player in Georgia.

LSU football is one of the programs in the mix to land Mbake

Mbake performed this week at the NFA 7-on-7 East Regional in Myrtle Beach and spoke briefly to Rivals about his recruitment.

The Georgia native noted that Florida, Georgia, LSU, and USC are the programs he’s having consistent communication with.

Mbake is certainly a player the Tigers want to land. He has elite size and athleticism, which instantly presents matchup problems for defensive backs (he’s too fast for a linebacker to cover). Mbake excels at 50/50 balls. He’s also extremely dynamic after the catch.

In other words, he’s a complete wide receiver.

I’m actually surprised that Mbake isn’t ranked a bit higher, though it’s evident from his offer list that programs view him as a better player than the recruiting services. I wouldn’t be shocked if he receives a ratings bump in the coming months.

Mbake said last month that he’s not planning to announce his commitment until January at the All-American Bowl, so there’s a lot of time left in this recruiting battle. Visits, whenever they are allowed to resume, will likey playing a big role in Mbake’s decision.

LSU currently has 10 players committed to its 2022 recruiting class.
