Five-star offensive tackle Julian Armella is one of LSU football‘s top recruiting targets in the 2022 recruiting class.

Armella, 6-foot-7/290 lbs from Miami, FL (Columbus), is ranked by Rivals as the No. 1 offensive tackle in the country and the No. 6 overall player in the 2022 recruiting class.

It’s easy to see why he’s so high on the Tigers’ wishlist.

LSU, of course, isn’t the only program hoping to land Armella. The rest of the top programs in the nation are also strongly pursuing the talented offensive lineman.

LSU football has stiff competition for Julian Armella

Armella recently released a top seven of Alabama, Clemson, Florida State, LSU, Ohio State, Miami, and Florida.

Those are pretty much the usual suspects when it comes to top recruits in the south.

If any of those programs have an inside track to landing Armella, the assumption, likely, is that it would be Florida State (Armella is a Florida State legacy).

But that may not be the case.

Adam Gorney, who covers recruiting for Rivals, reported this week that recent “chatter” suggests Alabama and LSU could have the “edge” in the recruiting battle for Armella.

While that’s certainly good news for the Tigers, their work here is far from done.

Armella has indicated that visits will play a huge part in his final decision.

Visits won’t be allowed to resume until at least June 1(the NCAA recently extended the dead period through May 31).

Armella has a good relationship with LSU offensive line coach James Cregg, which bodes well for the Tigers. But this recruiting battle is a long way from over.
