LSU football is among the top eight programs for a 2022 four-star linebacker from Alabama.

Shemar James, 6-foot-3/200 lbs from Mobile, AL (Faith Acadamy), revealed a top eight this week of Georgia, Auburn, Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Texas A&M, LSU, and Michigan.

James is ranked in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 11 athlete in the country and the No. 157 overall recruit in the 2022 class.

The Alabama native told Rivals that he based his top eight on the relationships he’s built during the recruiting process.

What kind of shot does LSU football have to land James?

The general feeling at this point is that Alabama and Auburn are on top for James, which isn’t exactly a surprise (it’s tough to steal elite talent out of Alabama).

But it doesn’t sound like James is anywhere close to making a final decision.

“I am waiting on visits before I do anything else. I have not been anywhere, so I really can’t find out about the schools until I can visit,” explained James to Rivals.

“Visits are a must for me,” added the dynamic linebacker.

So what kind of shot does LSU have to land the versatile athlete?

It’s unclear at this point.

Though here’s what he had to say about the Tigers to Rivals:

“LSU is a great program with great defense, and I have been talking to coach Baker and Coach O,” said James. “I want to find out more about them.”

It sounds like there’s a long way to go in this recruiting battle.

Next. Coach O not committing to Myles Brennan as LSU's starting QB. dark

The Tigers, by the way, currently have 10 players committed to their 2022 recruiting class (which is ranked No. 3 in the country at the moment).
