LSU Football is one of the programs “trending” for 4-star DB from Texas

LSU football is one of the programs that are “trending” for 2022 four-star defensive back Julian Humphrey, according to Rivals recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman.
Humphrey, 6-foot-1/185 lbs from Houston, TX (Clear Lake), is ranked in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 23 cornerback in the country.
The Texas native, who has plenty of speed, is also ranked as the No. 206 overall recruit in the 2022 recruiting class.
Spiegelman reported this week that a “handful” of programs have Humphrey’s attention, including Texas A&M, Arizona State, USC, LSU, and Penn State.
Where does LSU football stand in the battle for Humphrey?
Humphrey is planning to announce his commitment on April 1, which means there’s not a lot of time left in this recruiting battle (though teams certainly won’t stop recruiting Humphrey after he announces his commitment).
The talented cornerback told Rivals this week that he doesn’t want to wait for visits to resume before announcing his commitment (the dead period was recently extended to May 31 by the NCAA).
When it comes to LSU, Humphrey has an established relationship with the coaching staff that should help the Tigers.
“I’ve been knowing them since eighth grade when I went up to their camp and won the fastest man award in front of those guys there,” said Humphrey to Rivals. “Ever since then, I’ve had a great relationship with the coaches.”
“Coach (Corey) Raymond pulled the trigger and offered me and he’s made another big push for me,” added Humphrey. “It’s right there in Louisiana and not too far from home.”
Texas A&M feels like the favorite here, thanks to the in-state ties. But I wouldn’t rule out LSU making a strong push. This could end up being a situation where he commits to the Aggies in April but flips to LSU down the road after taking visits this fall.
