LSU football is one of the programs to beat for one of the nation’s top-rated 2022 recruits.

Five-star athlete Gentry Williams revealed his top six schools on Tuesday and he included the Tigers, along with Arkansas, Florida, Missouri, Oklahoma, and USC.

Williams, 6-foot/170 lbs from Tulsa, OK, is ranked in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 2 athlete in the country and the No. 19 overall player in the 2022 recruiting class.

So where does LSU stand in this recruiting battle?

What kind of chance does LSU football have to land Gentry Williams?

Even though Williams revealed a top six on Tuesday, he actually has a top three.

And the Tigers are also in that.

“The order I would say, the top three schools for me right now would be LSU, OU, and USC with definitely you have Arkansas being close with four and Florida and Missouri giving good options,” said Williams to 247Sports this week.

Williams, who is hoping to compete in track at the collegiate level as well, talked to 247Sports about his feelings on LSU and the other programs in his top three.

“LSU speaks for itself as far as DBs and Coach (Corey) Raymond is a great defensive coach and their track program as well,” explained Williams.

It sounds like the Tigers are strongly in the mix here. But I think Oklahoma could be the team to beat for Williams. It’s hard to beat out the hometown school — especially a program like Oklahoma that’s had great success under head coach Lincoln Riley.

Next. Coach O is the perfect CEO for LSU. dark

Williams doesn’t currently have a timetable for his decision, so it’s possible LSU will get him on campus before he makes his decision.

If that happens, then maybe we could see the Tigers become a bigger factor for the elite athlete.
