LSU football is one of the programs in the mix to land an elite 2022 four-star wide receiver.

Sam Mbake, 6-foot-3/205 lbs from Snellville, GA (Brookwood), is a top 300 player that has plenty of suitors.

Mbake is currently hearing from programs such as Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, LSU, Ohio State, and USC.

It shouldn’t be a surprise that the nation’s top programs are hoping to land Mbake. He’s ranked in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 42 wide receiver in the country and the No. 28 player in the talent-rich state of Georgia.

247Sports recruiting analyst Andrew Ivins says Mbake is “competitive after the catch, always looking to get up field” and “doesn’t shy away from contact and will try to run through a defender in order to move the chains”.

Ivins also notes that Mbake is a good blocker.

What kind of shot does LSU football have to land Sam Mbake?

For now, it appears that Mbake’s recruitment is wide open.

The talented wide receiver recently spoke to Rivals about his recruitment and his interest in LSU, though he didn’t reveal too much.

“I’m gonna be there when AJ (Johnson) goes up there the first weekend of June,” said Mbake. “I’m not sure if it’ll be an official, but when I was down there around the (7-on-7 team) Bootleggers, it was a good vibe all-around. I like the scenery around there and it’s very fun.”

Mbake had similar comments about the other programs that are pursuing him. Nothing too revealing, essentially.

Recruiting should pick up over the next few months — especially if the NCAA lifts the recruiting dead period at the end of May.

The battle for Mbake, however, likely won’t be decided for a while. It doesn’t sound like the coveted wide receiver is anywhere close to a decision.
