LSU Football: Tigers in top 7 for elite in-state WR
By Zach Ragan
2022 four-star wide receiver Shazz Preston revealed his top seven schools this week and he included LSU football, along with Alabama, Mississippi State, Georgia, Texas, USC, and Miami.
Preston, 6-foot/190 lbs from Saint James, LA (St James), is ranked in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 10 wide receiver in the country and the No. 4 overall player in Louisiana.
The dynamic wide receiver appears to be close to making a decision. He recently told Rivals that he hopes to make a decision before the start of his senior season.
So where do the Tigers stand?
LSU football has a really good shot to land Shazz Preston
Preston wants to visit all the schools in his top seven before announcing his commitment. So far, he’s visited all of his finalists except for Texas and USC. He’s planning to visit those programs in June (assuming official visits are allowed in June, the recruiting dead period currently runs through May 31).
The Tigers should be considered the favorites here — LSU doesn’t often let elite talent leave Louisiana.
But Mississippi State could be a real threat, due to the fact that Preston’s older brother signed with the Bulldogs.
Fortunately for the Tigers, the LSU coaching staff has built a solid relationship with Preston.
“Everybody in the building (at LSU) knows my name and I feel the love,” said Preston recently to Rivals. “It’s big when people know your name. Coach O is always excited to talk to me and asks what I’m doing on the weekend.”
“He (Orgeron) checks on me and Coach Mickey and my dad are so close,” added Preston. “They played ball together, so it’s been neat. He always said I was gonna be the one, so it’s been a close connection with LSU ever since.”
This is going to be a tight battle down the stretch. But I like the Tigers’ odds of keeping Preston in-state.
