LSU football is one of several renowned programs hoping to land a 2023 four-star wide receiver from Texas.

Jaquaize Pettaway, 5-foot-11/170 lbs from Houston, TX (Langham Creek), is ranked in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 8 wide receiver in the country and the No. 52 overall player in the 2023 recruiting class.

Pettaway holds notable offers from LSU, Auburn, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M, and USC, among several others.

The reason so many elite programs are strongly pursuing the young wide receiver?

It’s because Pettaway is incredibly fast and incredibly athletic (Pettaway competes in the 100-meter, 200-meter, and the triple-jump).

LSU football is going to have tough competition for Pettaway

LSU is strongly in the mix for Pettaway, but this recruiting battle is nowhere near a conclusion.

Pettaway told Rivals recently that he’s hoping to visit LSU soon.

“They like my speed and my hands and how I get after the ball,” said Pettaway to Rivals this week. “I know they have a very good offense and they can pass the ball around and throw it with tempo. I like that.”

The good news for the Tigers is that it appears LSU is at the front of Pettaway’s mind.

“I want to go out to visits to LSU and Oklahoma, and with more offers it might change around a little bit,” said Pettaway. “I want to see the campuses. I’ve been out there to Oklahoma and Louisiana, so I’m already a little familiar with them.”

“I want to talk to teammates and get an idea of how things work around there,” added Pettaway.

Pettaway obviously isn’t in a hurry to commit (which makes sense, since he’s a 2023 recruit). LSU has plenty of time here to win over the Texas native.

But it won’t be easy. Pettaway is going to continue to be one of the most highly sought-after 2023 wide receivers in the country.
