LSU Football: Power ranking the QBs on the Tigers’ roster
By Zach Ragan
LSU football has plenty of quarterback talent on the roster.
That’s a statement that I don’t think anyone will dispute.
The Tigers have four quarterbacks that are capable of starting in the SEC (three of them already have). Of course, only one can start. And for now, we have no idea which quarterback that will be.
LSU head coach Ed Orgeron is adamant that the race is still wide open and hasn’t been narrowed down yet.
It seems likely that at some point this fall we’ll start to see two quarterbacks separate from the other two. At that point, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see one of the four quarterbacks transfer.
But we aren’t to that point yet. No one has transferred and there’s no sign that a transfer will happen this summer. Until that happens, the Tigers have four quality quarterbacks on the roster.
And here’s how we rank them.
4. Garrett Nussmeier — True freshman
I think there’s a good chance that Garrett Nussmeier is the most talented quarterback on the roster. Folks around LSU have raved about the true freshman this spring.
Orgeron even compared him a little bit to Joe Burrow
“I do see some similarities that Garrett has as far as leadership, as far as competitiveness, ability to make plays,” said Orgeron earlier this spring (via USA Today). “I think he’s only going to get better here. I think he’s going to be a great quarterback here. I’m very pleased with him.”
While I think Nussmeier has the potential to be the best quarterback on the team, it’s important to remember that he’s never played in a college football game. And until he does, he’s a massive unknown. I think the future is bright for Nussmeier at LSU, but he hasn’t proved anything yet.
