Former LSU football standout Patrick Peterson made an awesome deal recently that benefits a high school in Wisconsin.

Peterson, who was the Jim Thorpe Award and Chuck Bednarik Award winner in 2010 during his final season in Baton Rouge, signed with the Minnesota Vikings earlier this offseason after spending the first 10 years of his NFL career with the Arizona Cardinals.

The former first-round pick wore No. 21 during his time with the Cardinals. But a new rule change this year — allowing NFL players to wear an expanded option of numbers — means Peterson can pick any jersey number between 1 and 49.

It’s no surprise that the former Tiger chose No. 7 — the number he famously wore during his LSU days (and then passed on to Tyrann Mathieu).

There was only one problem with Peterson’s choice.

Someone on the Vikings roster already had No. 7.

Backup quarterback Nate Stanley wore No. 7 in 2020, which made him the rightful owner of the number in 2021.

Fortunately for Peterson, Stanley was willing to make a deal for the Number.

In exchange for the No. 7, Peterson is donating new shoulder pads to Stanley’s old high school — Menomonie High School.

“We have a lot of them that have been here for a long time, some of them 15 years, 10 years,’’ said retired Menomonie head coach Joe LaBuda (via Pioneer Press). “A lot of them have been to the point where they need to be replaced.’’

It’s great to see something good coming out of Peterson wanting to switch to the No. 7.

And it’s certainly going to be awesome seeing Peterson once again rocking a purple No. 7 jersey on the football field.
