LSU football true freshman wide receiver Deion Smith is trying to use a family connection to help the Tigers in recruiting.

Smith, a former four-star recruit who signed with LSU during the 2021 recruiting cycle, is the older brother of 2023 wide receiver Daniel Smith.

The younger Smith hasn’t been rated yet by the major recruiting services, but he already has offers from LSU and Mississippi State.

Deion, unsurprisingly, is trying to convince his younger brother to commit to the Tigers.

Family connection could pay off for LSU football

It’s not unusual for a recruit to have an older brother that is already on a college football roster.

But typically in those situations, we hear the older brother say that they don’t want to put any pressure on the younger brother.

Deion Smith, however, isn’t hiding the fact that he wants his younger brother in Baton Rouge.

“He loves it up there,” Daniel said this week to Rivals. “He’s telling me to come play with him and that we can be a nonstop duo, and if it turns out that way I’ll be at LSU.”

The duo, who played high school football together in Mississippi, are obviously close.

I’m sure Daniel will do his due diligence and give all the schools pursuing him a legitimate chance.

However, I imagine it will be difficult for Daniel to turn down an opportunity to play with his older brother at one of the most prestigious schools in all of college football. That’s probably a scenario the brothers have dreamed about since they were kids.

The Tigers do not currently have any players committed to their 2023 recruiting class.
