An LSU football junior received the proper respect from 247Sports this week.

On Monday, 247Sports revealed their top 10 SEC players entering the 2021 season.

Before I even opened the article, I was ready to blast 247Sports for not putting Tigers defensive back Derek Stingley Jr at No. 1.

But much to my surprise (I guess I just assumed Stingley would get disrespected), Stingley is at No. 1 on 247Sports’ list, just ahead of Alabama offensive lineman Evan Neal and Georgia quarterback JT Daniels.

247Sports gushes over LSU football’s Derek Stingley Jr

247Sports didn’t just put Stingley at No. 1 on their list, they were effervescent over the stud cornerback.

“There may not be a more physically gifted player in next year’s cycle than Derek Stingley, a former can’t-miss prospect who has been as good as advertised his first two years in Baton Rouge,” wrote 247Sports’ Brad Crawford.

Stingley, a Baton Rouge native who was rated as the No. 3 overall player in the 2019 recruiting class, has been a member of the All-SEC first team during his first two seasons at LSU.

The young defensive back is already viewed by many folks as a likely top 10 pick (if not higher) in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Stingley, however, could see some action on offense in 2021, which could make him an even more attractive draft option for NFL teams.

Tigers head coach Ed Orgeron told reporters in early April that he wants Stingley to master LSU’s new defense, before giving him any reps on the offensive side of the ball.

Of course, it’s not like Stingley needs to make himself more attractive to NFL teams. There are plenty of franchises already salivating over the idea of adding the LSU standout to their roster.
