LSU football has a player on the roster that has the potential to be the SEC’s next big offensive star.

And it probably isn’t who you’d think.

True freshman wide receiver Chris Hilton didn’t arrive in Baton Rouge with the same fanfare as some other recent LSU wide receivers, such as five-stars Terrace Marshall Jr and Kayshon Boutte.

But Hilton has the skills to play at a five-star level for the Tigers.

Chris Hilton could be a major star for LSU football

I feel like Hilton could be LSU’s next Ja’Marr Chase.

Hilton, like Chase, wasn’t rated as a top-five wide receiver in 247Sports’ composite rankings (Hilton was the No. 11 wide receiver in the country, while Chase was the No. 15 wide receiver in the country).

The two wide receivers, however, have similarly elite skills.

Hilton, a Louisiana native, isn’t quite as big as Chase, but he may be a bit faster (Hilton won a Class 5A high jump state championship this past weekend, as well as a state championship in the 400-meter dash).

When you combine Hilton’s speed, with his ability to win jump ball situations, and his great body control, you get a wide receiver that has all the tools to be great for the Tigers (and he’s going to have some pretty good quarterbacks throwing to him, too).

Comparing anyone to Ja’Marr Chase probably isn’t fair. Hilton could have a great career at LSU and still not live up to Chase’s 2019 season.

But Hilton is a player that seems to be flying a bit under the radar, thanks to the presence of Boutte and true freshman Deion Smith.

Don’t be surprised, however, if Hilton ends up being the biggest star of the three.
