LSU Football: Tigers among the top contenders for nation’s top safety

LSU football is one of the programs that’s considered a serious contender for the nation’s top-rated safety.
2022 five-star safety Kamari Wilson recently revealed his top six schools.
The Tigers made the cut, along with Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, and Texas A&M.
Wilson, 6-foot-1/195 lbs from Fort Pierce, FL, is ranked in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 1 safety in the country and the No. 5 player in Florida. He’s also rated as the No. 24 overall player in the 2022 recruiting class.

Rivals national recruiting director Adam Gorney recently “ranked the contenders” for Wilson and he has LSU as the No. 2 most likely team to land the talented defensive back.
“Arguably no team on Wilson’s final list has a better reputation for developing defensive backs than LSU and that could be a major consideration as the four-star gets closer to a decision,” wrote Gorney.
Gorney also noted that Wilson grew up “watching and admiring” former Tigers defensive back Tyrann Mathieu.
Georgia is the team that Gorney currently has as the No. 1 contender for Wilson.
And they’re out in front by a good margin according to Gorney.
“There are just too many whispers about Georgia being very high on his list to ignore and while things could change, it would be a surprise if he doesn’t end up with the Bulldogs,” says Gorney.
It’s unclear when Wilson will make his decision, though he’s expected to take official visits before announcing his commitment.
