LSU Football: Tigers working to steal 5-star commit from Florida State
By Zach Ragan
LSU football is hoping to steal a 2022 five-star commit from the Florida State Seminoles.
Five-star athlete Sam McCall committed to Florida State in late February, but he’s still checking out other programs.
And LSU is one of the programs he plans to check out.
According to 247Sports’ Billy Embody, McCall is set to take an official visit to Baton Rouge on June 18 (he’s also going to check out Miami and South Carolina in June).
Embody reported that Tigers linebackers coach Blake Baker was able to get LSU involved in McCall’s recruitment after he was hired by Ed Orgeron earlier this year.
According to Embody, McCall is taking visits to “see if he missed anything” during the recruiting process.
McCall was previously committed to Florida, so he’s not afraid to change things up in his recruitment.
Sam McCall would be a huge addition for LUS football
McCall, 6-foot/180 lbs from Lakeland, FL (Lake Gibson), is ranked in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 4 athlete in the country and the No. 6 player in Florida. He’s also ranked as the No. 32 overall player in the 2022 recruiting class.
The Florida native will likely be a defensive back at the next level –at least that’s the position he’s best suited to play in college.
247Sports’ recruiting analyst Andrew Ivins says McCall “does a nice job of feeling out routes around him and is able to take advantage of the mistakes that quarterbacks make”.
Ivins also notes that McCall has “superb ball skills” and “doesn’t lack foot speed in any way”.
LSU currently has 13 players committed to its 2022 recruiting class, which is ranked No. 3 in the nation.
