LSU football‘s 2021 signing class was one of the best in the country.

The Tigers signed 23 players and finished with the No. 3 overall recruiting class in the nation.

True freshmen typically aren’t expected to meet expectations from day one.

LSU, however, has a couple of players that 247Sports expects to have a major impact on college football in 2021.

The three true freshmen could have a big impact for LSU football in 2021

247Sports’ Chris Hummer recently compiled a list of the 100 true freshmen who will impact college football in 2021.

Hummer included three Tigers on his list.

Five-star defensive tackle Maason Smith, five-star defensive back Sage Ryan and four-star wide receiver Deion Smith are the three Tigers true freshmen that Hummer singled out.

Smith has already received a lot of buzz this spring, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him carve out a key role for LSU this season. Smith was ranked as the No. 19 overall player in the 2021 recruiting class.

Ryan should continue the Tigers’ tradition of “defensive back U”. He’s a dynamic player that can play anywhere in the secondary. Pairing Derek Stingley and Eli Ricks with Ryan almost doesn’t seem fair. That’s a ridiculous amount of secondary talent for LSU.

Finally, LSU might as well be the real “wide receiver U”. From Odell Beckham Jr and Jarvis Landry to Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase, it’s unreal the amount of wide receiver talent coming out of LSU over the last decade-plus.

Next. LSU could be repeating a costly mistake. dark

Smith, who has ideal wide receiver size at 6-foot-3/203 lbs, was an early enrollee this spring, which means he should be ready to roll in Jake Peetz’s offense this fall.
