LSU Football: Tigers in top 10 for elite tight end
By Zach Ragan
LSU football is among the top 10 schools for one of the nation’s top-rated 2022 tight ends.
Four-star tight end Jaleel Skinner revealed his top 10 schools on Monday (via Twitter) and LSU made the cut.
Skinner also included Florida, Texas, Miami, Arizona State, Clemson, Alabama, Florida State, Oregon, and Oklahoma.
LSU offered Skinner last July.
LSU football will have a tough battle for Jaleel Skinner
Skinner, 6-foot-5/210 lbs from Greer, SC (Greer), is ranked in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 3 tight end in the country and the No. 3 player in South Carolina. He’s also rated as the No. 94 overall player in the 2022 recruiting class.
The talented tight end is scheduled to take an official visit to Florida on June 9. He’s also set to take an unofficial visit to Florida State in June, according to 247Sports.
Skinner is an interesting recruit. He’s basically a hybrid tight end/wide receiver, which could create some mismatches on the field.
247Sports’ Andrew Ivins describes Skinner as a player with an “extraordinary catch radius” and someone who “takes advantage of soft coverage on a consistent basis”.
While there’s a lot of upside with Skinner, there are also some concerns.
Ivins says Skinner “needs to get better at attacking the ball in the air” and notes that he is “in no way a polished product, but has an extremely high ceiling given physical stature”.
Basically, LSU and other programs are pursuing Skinner because of his athletic profile and potential ceiling as a player. It’s hard to find players like Skinner who possesses elite size and athleticism. He’s definitely a player worth taking a risk on.
