LSU Football commit planning to visit other programs this summer
By Zach Ragan
LSU football landed one of their top 2022 recruiting targets in January when four-star defensive back Laterrance Welch committed to the Tigers.
Welch, 6-foot-1/180 lbs from Lafayette, LA (Acadiana), is ranked in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 14 cornerback in the country and the No. 7 player in Louisiana.
He’s also ranked as the No. 122 overall player in the 2022 recruiting class.
“I look at it like … why would I turn up in another state when I can turn up in mine? I live 35 minutes away from LSU and my whole family can come,” said Welch to Rivals after his commitment earlier this year.
Will LSU football hold on to Laterrance Welch?
Welch is committed to the Tigers, but that doesn’t mean he can’t take visits to other programs (that’s the other Tigers…you know, the ones at Clemson, that don’t allow commits to take visits).
The Louisiana native is planning to take a few visits this summer. According to 247Sports, Welch is going to check out Florida State, Auburn, and Oklahoma this summer.
But if you’re worried about Welch flipping to another program, don’t be. He made it clear he’s “solid” in his commitment to LSU.
“Solid, 100 percent,” said Welch to 247Sports when asked about his commitment to LSU. “Coach Raymond, that’s my dog. Coach Jones, he’s genuine.”
I can’t blame Welch for wanting to visit other programs. You only get one chance to be a highly-recruited high school player. Welch deserves to enjoy that experience.
Is it possible that Welch falls in love with another program during one of his visits and flips from LSU?
Of course.
But that doesn’t feel like something that’s likely to happen. I fully expect Welch to sign with LSU next winter.
