LSU Football: Tigers could lose 4-star in-state recruit to the west coast
By Zach Ragan
LSU football doesn’t usually miss on elite in-state talent.
Every now and then, a talented in-state player will slip away from the Tigers. Typically, however, LSU gets their in-state recruiting targets.
But every recruit does things their own way. And just because a player is from Louisiana, doesn’t mean it’s going to be an automatic commitment for LSU. Maybe a player wants to get out of the state and experience something different.
That could be the case with 2022 four-star wide receiver Shazz Preston, a Saint James, LA native.
Is LSU football in danger of losing Shazz Preston to the west coast?
Preston, 6-foot/190 lbs, is ranked in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 8 wide receiver in the country and the No. 4 player in Louisiana. He’s also ranked as the No. 69 overall player in the 2022 recruiting class.
The Louisiana native recently took a visit to USC and he was reportedly very impressed.
“[Preston] is coming off a major trip to USC in which he fell in love with the West Coast,” wrote Rivals national recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman. “Preston raved about his time in Los Angeles and said he could definitely envision playing for the Trojans when it’s all said and done.”
This certainly isn’t good news for the Tigers. Losing Preston to USC would be a tough blow for LSU, a program that has developed a reputation for being “wide receiver U” over the last decade.
We’ll see how this plays out in the coming months, but there’s definitely reason for concern when it comes to USC and Preston.
Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, and Texas are also in the mix to land the talented 2022 wide receiver.
