It looks like LSU football could be landing one of the nation’s top-rated defensive backs over the Florida Gators.
247Sports LSU writers Billy Embody and Shea Dixon predicted this week that LSU is in a great spot to land a commitment from four-star safety Azareyeh Thomas.
“We’re ready to make our predictions for LSU to reel him in. Don’t expect this one to drag out much longer,” wrote Dixon.
Thomas, 6-foot-1/177 lbs from Niceville, FL (Niceville), is ranked in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 8 athlete in the country and the No. 14 player in Florida.
Azareyeh Thomas would be a huge get for LSU football
Thomas is a player that Florida would definitely love to have in its 2022 signing class.
Just a couple of weeks ago, Rivals national recruiting director Adam Gorney suggested that Florida held a “slight edge” for the dynamic athlete.
Things changed, however, after a visit to Baton Rouge this past weekend.
Thomas and his family were reportedly “blown away” by the visit, which is why 247Sports feels the talented Florida native is one the verge of committing to LSU.
Landing Thomas over the Gators — one of the Tigers’ top rivals in the SEC — would be a massive win for LSU.
Of course, this is recruiting and anything can happen between now and National Signing Day (after all, it’s not like Florida is going to stop recruiting Thomas if he commits to LSU).
But for now, it certainly appears that Thomas will be Louisiana bound in the near future.
LSU, by the way, currently has 11 players committed to its 2022 recruiting class, which is ranked No. 3 in the country and No. 1 in the SEC.
