LSU football redshirt senior quarterback Myles Brennan could be in for a big season according to a 247Sports Florida Gators writer.

Bob Redman, who covers the Gators for 247Sports, was one of several writers this week who made some predictions for the sports network.

One of the predictions that Redman made is that Brennan will receive Heisman Trophy votes this upcoming season (he also predicted that LSU will lose a close game to Alabama).

“LSU gives Alabama all they want when they play but falls in a close game at the end. Myles Brennan becomes the top Heisman vote-getter in the SEC,” said Redman.

The biggest problem with Myles Brennan winning the Heisman Trophy in 2021

I absolutely think Brennan could receive Heisman Trophy votes in 2021. He was on a Heisman Trophy-like pace in 2020 before an abdomen injury sidelined him for the final seven games of the season.

The biggest problem with Redman’s prediction is that we don’t even know if Brennan is going to be the starting quarterback in Baton Rouge this season.

Brennan is in the midst of an intense quarterback battle with sophomore Max Johnson that’s expected to continue through fall camp.

Johnson started the final two games of the 2020 season and led the Tigers to two straight wins (over Florida and Ole Miss) to help salvage a 5-5 record.

For now, LSU head coach Ed Orgeron isn’t tipping his hand when it comes to who the Tigers’ starter will be in 2021.

This is a battle that could honestly go either way. I could see either quarterback winning the job and leading LSU to a successful season while being a factor in the Heisman Trophy race.

Of course, this is a good problem for the Tigers to have.

Having a backup quarterback on the roster who is capable of receiving Heisman Trophy votes is a luxury that most teams will never have.
