LSU Football: Derek Stingley Jr proves to be a true team player
By Zach Ragan
LSU football defensive back Derek Stingley Jr could sit out the entire 2021 season and still be a top 10 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Stingley put enough on tape as a true freshman in 2019 to show NFL teams all they need to know.
The Baton Rouge native is a stud. One of the best players in all of college football.
But sitting out is not even on Stingley’s radar.
LSU football cornerback Derek Stingley Jr will do whatever he can to help the Tigers win
Not only is Stingley not considering sitting out, but he’s also actually willing to be on the field more for the Tigers in 2021.
There’s been a lot of talk about Stingley possibly playing at wide receiver this season. I’m in the “believe it when we see it” camp when it comes to Stingley playing on offense.
Stingley, however, made it clear on Monday that if LSU needs him on the field at wide receiver to win games, that’s what he’ll do.
The dynamic cornerback was straight up asked if he’ll play wide receiver this season.
“That depends on whether Coach O thinks I should be or not,” responded Stingley (via Brooks Kubena).
The follow-up question was whether or not Stingley thinks he should be playing wide receiver.
And his response was perfect.
“Whatever I need to do to help the team win,” said Stingley.
LSU fans have to love that answer. It’s refreshing to see a player like Stingley — someone with little to gain and a lot to lose — have a team-first attitude in this age of “it’s all about me”.
Stingley is going to make an NFL team very, very happy in the near future.
But first, he has unfinished business at LSU.
