Trying to make a prediction for LSU football in 2021 is a difficult task.

There are plenty of folks who are down on the Tigers after the program went 5-5 in 2020, while others are expecting a bounceback season from Ed Orgeron’s squad.

(I’m in the latter group.)

With the start of the season less than two months away, we’re fixing to see a litany of pre-season top 25 rankings hit the internet.

Where does LSU football land in College Football News’ top 25 rankings?

College Football News made their prediction this week for what the AP College Football Top 25 will look like later this summer when it’s released.

And they don’t think the Tigers will be included in the top 10.

College Football News has LSU at No. 13.

Here’s their top 25:

  1. Alabama Crimson Tide
  2. Oklahoma Sooners
  3. Clemson Tigers
  4. Georgia Bulldogs
  5. Ohio State Buckeyes
  6. Texas A&M Aggies
  7. Iowa State Cyclones
  8. Cincinnati Bearcats
  9. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
  10. North Carolina Tar Heels
  11. Oregon Ducks
  12. Florida Gators
  13. LSU Tigers
  14. Wisconsin Badgers
  15. USC Trojans
  16. Texas Longhorns
  17. Penn State Nittany Lions
  18. Indiana Hoosiers
  19. Washington Huskies
  20. Iowa Hawkeyes
  21. Arizona State Sun Devils
  22. Michigan Wolverines
  23. Liberty Flames
  24. Oklahoma State Cowboys
  25. Miami Hurricanes

I think this is a more than fair ranking for the Tigers. Based on last season, LSU shouldn’t be ranked.

But most of us know that LSU is a better program than what we saw last season (and they started showing it the final two games of the season). The Tigers have the talent to compete for the SEC West division title. They have the talent to be a College Football Playoff contender. But they still have to prove it.

It feels like the Tigers will likely be ranked in the 10-15 range. That seems to be where LSU is landing in most of these preseason prediction lists.
