LSU football announced earlier this week that redshirt senior quarterback Myles Brennan is out indefinitely after suffering an arm injury that required surgery.

(Brennan had the surgery on Tuesday.)

Brennan suffered a broken left arm while preparing for a fishing trip on Sunday night.

According to Brennan’s father, Owen, the young quarterback got his flip flop caught on a loose board, causing him to fall. His father, who was speaking to WWL-FM 105.3 on Wednesday, said Brennan was unable to brace his fall because his hands were full of fishing equipment.

“It was just an absolute freak accident,” said Owen Brennan (via The Advocate). “He was not doing anything that he was not supposed to be doing.”

With Brennan out indefinitely, sophomore Max Johnson was named the Tigers’ starting quarterback by LSU head coach Ed Orgeron.

When will Myles Brennan return to the field for LSU football?

Orgeron was careful not to give an estimated time of return for Brennan this week.

But thanks to ESPN Baton Rouge’s Matt Moscona, we have a decent idea of when Brennan could return.

Moscona told WAFB’s Jacques Doucet this week that he was told, candidly, that Brennan should miss around eight weeks.

If that timetable proves to be correct, it will have Brennan returning sometime around the end of September or the first of October (the Tigers play Mississippi State on September 25 and Auburn on October 2).

LSU definitely doesn’t want to rush Brennan back. And I think the offense is in great hands with Johnson.

dark. Next. Jacoby Mathews back to LSU?

But there’s no doubt that LSU wants Brennan back as soon as he’s fully recovered. The Tigers don’t have much quarterback depth with Brennan out. They’re only a couple of snaps away from having to rely on a walk-on freshman to run the offense.

And that’s not a situation that would be ideal for anyone in Baton Rouge.
