LSU Football: The Tigers’ greatest all-time QB/RB duo
By Zach Ragan
LSU football might own the latest trend to take over college football Twitter.
On Friday, the Pro Football Focus college account posted a tweet that suggested everyone put together their program’s greatest quarterback/running back duo.
The example that PFF College used was Auburn’s combination of quarterback Cam Newton and running back Bo Jackson.
Now that you get how this works, you can probably already see where this is heading with LSU.
Who is LSU football’s greatest QB/RB duo of all time?
The Tigers obviously have a lot of great quarterbacks and running backs to choose from.
Tommy Hodson, JaMarcus Russell, and Zach Mettenberger all had tremendous careers as quarterbacks in Baton Rouge.
And Kevin Faulk, Derrius Guice, Charles Alexander, Jeremy Hill, and Clyde Edwards-Helaire were all great running backs.
But there are two players at each position that rise above the rest.
Quarterback Joe Burrow and running back Leonard Fournette.
Can you imagine how awesome it would’ve been to see those two on the field together?
(Though to be fair, it’s hard to imagine LSU’s offense in 2019 being any better than it was.)
Burrow is the Tigers’ No. 2 all-time leading passer, despite playing only two years at LSU.
Fournette’s 2015 season, when he rushed for 1,953 yards, stands as the Tigers’ best rushing season ever.
Burrow and Fournette were each must-see players that electrified crowds every time they took the field. I can’t imagine what it would’ve been like to see them playing on the same team.
There are a lot of great all-time great quarterback/running back duos — the Jackson/Newton one is an all-timer for sure — but the Burrow/Fournette duo is definitely top five.
