LSU Football: 247Sports has a fun bowl game prediction for Tigers
By Zach Ragan
247Sports made their latest bowl game predictions this week and they have LSU football heading out west during bowl season.
The Tigers are predicted by 247Sports to play Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl in Arizona.
The Fiesta Bowl was part of the College Football Playoff in 2016 and 2019. It won’t be part of the College Football Playoff in 2021.
However, it’s still a marquee bowl game. And it would be a great way for the Tigers to end the season.
Does LSU football get a chance to end losing streak against Notre Dame?
The Tigers and the Fighting Irish have played each other12 times, with Notre Dame currently enjoying a two-game winning streak. The last time the two teams met was in the 2018 Citrus Bowl in Orlando. Notre Dame won that matchup 21-17.
Prior to the matchup in the 2018 Citrus Bowl, the last time the two teams played was in 2014 at the Music City Bowl in Nashville. The Fighting Irish won that matchup 31-28.
LSU’s last win in the series came in the 2007 Sugar Bowl when the Tigers beat Notre Dame 41-14 in New Orleans (that game remains the largest margin of victory by either team in the series).
Playing in the Fiesta Bowl would mean that LSU fell short of the College Football Playoff — which I’m sure is their ultimate goal — but it would also indicate a solid bounceback season for the Tigers.
The Fiesta Bowl hasn’t featured an unranked team since 1995 (which was Notre Dame, oddly enough). So a trip to the Fiesta Bowl would likely mean an LSU finish in at least the top 25, and probably closer to the top 15 (No. 11 LSU played No. 7 UCF in the 2019 Fiesta Bowl).
