LSU football is just one of the many programs pursuing 2023 five-star quarterback Arch Manning.

Most of the programs pursuing Manning, the grandson of former Ole Miss/New Orleans Saints quarterback Archie Manning and the nephew of Super Bowl winning quarterbacks Eli and Peyton Manning, don’t have a legitimate shot to land the young quarterback.

The Tigers, however, are one of the few teams that are realistically in this recruiting battle (along with Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Texas, and Ole Miss).

One of the main reasons that LSU is in a good spot with Manning is proximity to home. The Manning family has made New Orleans their home base for 50 years.

Family is extremely important to the Mannings, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Arch want to remain close to home.

But proximity isn’t the only reason the Tigers are in the mix to land the nation’s top-rated 2023 quarterback.

Offseason hire is key in LSU football’s pursuit of Arch Manning

This past offseason, Tigers head coach Ed Orgeron hired Carolina Panthers quarterbacks coach Jake Peetz to serve as LSU’s offensive coordinator (Orgeron also hired Mangas, an offensive assistant with the Panthers, to serve as the Tigers’ passing game coordinator).

Peetz and Mangas are expected to return LSU to the Joe Brady style of offense that was ridiculously successful for the Tigers in 2019 (when LSU land the nation in scoring with 48.4 points per game).

Arch was a huge fan of Brady, who left the Tigers’ staff after the 2019 season to join Matt Rhule’s Panthers staff.

Peetz is the next best thing to Brady. And it appears that the Manning family is already a fan of the former Carolina assistant.

“The [Manning] family really likes offensive coordinator Jake Peetz and what he brings to the Tigers,” wrote TigersDetails.com’s Julie Boudwin this week.

If Peetz proves to be the second coming of Brady, it could be game over in this recruiting battle.

I think Manning likes the Tigers a lot. I think he’d like to stay close to home and carve his own path.

Then again, the Mannings are keeping a lid on Arch’s plans for now, so it’s hard to truly tell where his mind is at.

However, I think LSU is in a good spot. There’s a long way to go in this battle, but the Tigers should be a factor until the end.
