LSU Football: Tigers in the race for 4-star athlete
By Zach Ragan
LSU football is one of the teams in the race for a 2023 four-star athlete from Florida.
Lewis Carter, 6-foot/200 lbs from Tampa, FL (Tampa Catholic), is ranked in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 10 linebacker in the country and the No. 26 player in Florida. He’s also rated as the No. 112 overall player in the 2023 recruiting class.
Rivals national recruiting director Adam Gorney recently updated Carter’s recruitment and it appears that the Tigers will get a visit from the talented athlete this fall.
Gorney said that Carter, who received his offer from LSU on June 1, is “for sure” going to visit Georgia and LSU this fall for a game weekend.
Auburn is also in the mix for the Florida native.
Can LSU football land Lewis Carter?
There’s obviously a long way to go in this recruiting battle.
But I like the Tigers’ odds here.
LSU recruits fairly well in Florida. And the program is known for developing defensive players (the assumption is that Carter will play linebacker at the next level). It would make plenty of sense for Carter to choose the Tigers.
The visit this fall, however, will be key. There’s nothing quite like a game day in Baton Rouge. Once Carter experiences that, he might forget all about Auburn and Georgia.
If Carter doesn’t end up sticking at linebacker, he could play running back. In fact, there are several schools — including Auburn — recruiting him to play either position (I tend to think he will stay at linebacker since it’s his most natural position).
LSU currently has only one commit to its 2023 recruiting class, four-star wide receiver Omarion Miller.
