LSU football has some impressive young talent at running back.

But they need to rest at least one of their young running backs in the season-opener against UCLA on Saturday.

The Tigers’ freshman duo of Corey Kiner and Armoni Goodwin has been impressive this fall, drawing praise from coaches and teammates on a regular basis.

Goodwin, however, is dealing with an undisclosed injury according to 247Sports that has his status for the season-opener as “questionable”.

While 247Sports reported that Goodwin’s injury isn’t considered “serious”, it’s still something that needs to be monitored.

LSU football shouldn’t even consider playing Armoni Goodwin

There’s really no good reason to put Goodwin out there on Saturday against UCLA and risk injury.

Especially with Kiner in the mix, and veterans Tyrion Davis-Price and John Emery Jr ready to go.

Davis-Price is the Tigers’ leading returning rusher from a year ago, while Emery is a former five-star recruit (he was the No. 8 running back in the nation in the 2019 recruiting class) with loads of potential.

With those three running backs seemingly a full go, it would be ill-advised to put Goodwin — a running back who has a lot of upside — in harm’s way with a full season left to play.

Davis-Price and Emery have dealt with nagging injuries while at LSU, so it’s likely that they’ll be limited at some point this season. And then the Tigers will need a healthy Goodwin to help carry some of the load.

Next. Optimism for LSU?. dark

Hopefully, LSU does the smart thing and brings Goodwin back slowly. There’s absolutely no reason to risk it this early in the season.
