LSU Football fans receive good news ahead of season-opener against UCLA
By Zach Ragan
LSU football fans received some good news on Tuesday, ahead of the Tigers’ season-opener against the UCLA Bruins.
According to head coach Ed Orgeron, who spoke with Off The Bench on Tuesday, stud cornerback Derek Stingley Jr returned to practice on Monday.
That’s obviously great news for the Tigers. Stingley has been missing for most of camp due to an injury that was deemed “not serious”.
Orgeron said Stingley “looked fine” as he returned to practice.
Stingley’s extended absence from spring practice likely means we won’t see the star cornerback on the offensive side of the ball this season (which was the plan).
But I’m sure fans won’t mind. The Tigers have plenty of talent at wide receiver. And Stingley is more important to the defense anyway.
LSU football prepping for UCLA away from Baton Rouge
LSU is prepping for the UCLA matchup away from Baton Rouge, thanks to Hurricane Ida.
The Tigers arrived in Houston over the weekend, where they’ll practice until Thursday morning. The team will arrive in Los Angeles on Thursday evening (just as they would have if they had been practicing in Baton Rouge all week).
LSU will then go through their walk-through on Friday in Los Angeles. They’ll also visit the Rose Bowl on Friday so players aren’t seeing the field for the first time on Saturday just before the start of the game.
This is an extremely important game for LSU. The team can’t get off to a slow start as they did in 2020. If the Tigers want to erase the questions that followed the program’s 5-5 season in 2020, they’ll need to take care of business against a less-talented UCLA team.
