LSU football will kick off the 2021 season on Saturday against the UCLA Bruins in Los Angeles.

The Tigers are looking to prove that the 2020 season in which the program went 5-5 was an anomaly that can be chalked up to a strange pandemic year, plus losing 14 players to the 2020 NFL Draft.

While most teams get to start the season with an “easy” game, LSU has to play a Power-5 opponent in UCLA that beat Hawaii 44-10 in week zero.

The Tigers have a lot to prove this season. And they’ll hope to make a strong statement against the Bruins as the 2021 season finally gets underway.

LSU vs UCLA Odds Week 1

The week one betting odds have LSU as a -2.5 point favorite (-110) over UCLA, despite being the visiting team. The money line has LSU at -135, while UCLA is at +115. The over/under for the game has been set at 64, with the over at -110 and the under at -110.

LSU vs UCLA Prediction Week 1

Week one is always a tough week to pick games — no one really knows what to expect. Though in this case, we at least got to see UCLA play this past week (and score 44 points…keep that in mind).

LSU is the more talented team, so I’d roll with the Tigers on the money line. At the of four quarters, I usually feel like the more talented team is going to win — especially early in the season. There isn’t a large spread in this game, so unless it goes into overtime, I feel comfortable betting LSU -3. If the game goes into overtime, that bet could be in trouble, thanks to the new 2 point conversion overtime rule (teams have to go for two when the game reaches a second overtime). As long as the game ends in regulation, LSU -3 feels pretty safe.

As far as the over/under, I’m feeling the over. UCLA score 44 against Hawaii last week. And LSU 32 averaged points per game in 2020 despite a revolving door at quarterback. They also gave up 35 points per game. The Tigers’ defense should be improved in 2021, but it could take them a couple of weeks to find their groove. I could definitely see this game being a shootout and finishing with a final score of 49-38 (or somewhere in that range).
