LSU Football: Tigers didn’t waste anytime communicating with Arch Manning as soon as it was allowed
By Zach Ragan
LSU Football, along with the rest of the college football world, was allowed to begin contacting 2023 recruits on September 1.
The Tigers’ biggest 2023 recruiting target is five-star quarterback Arch Manning, the grandson of former NFL quarterback Archie Manning and the nephew of NFL Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks Peyton and Eli Manning.
Manning, 6-foot-4/210 lbs from New Orleans, LA (Isidore Newman), is ranked in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2023 class.
It’s easy to see why the stud five-star quarterback is LSU’s top recruiting target.
That’s why the Tigers didn’t waste any time on September 1 when they were allowed to begin contacting 2023 recruits — they hit up Manning immediately.
According to 247Sports, LSU texted Manning as soon as the clock said midnight.
LSU football has some stiff competition for Arch Manning
LSU is one of the few programs that has a legitimate chance to land the New Orleans native.
There are six programs at this point that have a strong case for securing a commitment from Manning.
- LSU — Close to home, innovative offense in the style of Joe Brady.
- Alabama — It’s Alabama and Nick Saban. Enough said.
- Clemson — One of the premier programs in the country and they’ve put some QBs in the NFL recently.
- Ole Miss — Most of the Manning family, sans Peyton Manning, went to Ole Miss, including Arch’s father, Cooper.
- Texas — Manning has developed a strong relationship with Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian.
- Georgia — This feels like the least likely of the six, but Kirby Smart recruits at a high level, so it wouldn’t be wise to discount the Bulldogs here.
This recruiting battle will likely go down to the wire. It’s hard to see Arch rushing to make a decision.
The Tigers currently have one player committed to their 2023 recruiting class, four-star wide receiver Omarion MIller.
