LSU Football: 3 reasons why Ed Orgeron should not be on the hot seat

LSU football head coach Ed Orgeron isn’t necessarily on the hot seat right now.
But he could be by the end of the season if things don’t go well the rest of the year.
The Tigers didn’t get off to a great start in 2021, falling to UCLA in the season-opener (the same UCLA team that just lost to Fresno State), before turning in an underwhelming performance in a win against McNeese State the following week.
LSU appeared to right the ship a bit in week three with a 49-21 win over a decent Central Michigan team.
The rest of the season, though, will determine Orgeron’s job status. If LSU wins eight or nine games, he should be safe. But if the Tigers only win five or six games, it could be the end of the Coach O era in Baton Rouge.
For now, I don’t think Orgeron should be on the hot seat. And even if LSU only wins six games this year, I still don’t think Coach O should be fired.
There are three key reasons why I feel that way.
1. Recruiting at a high level
Recruiting is the lifeblood of college football.
When recruiting goes downhill, so does the program. If that happens, a coach has to be fired — especially in the SEC. Programs simply can’t win in this conference without elite talent.
Fortunately for the Tigers, recruiting is great under Orgeron.
LSU landed the No. 3 class in the nation during the 2021 recruiting cycle. And the Tigers currently have the No. 8 2022 recruiting class in the country, with a couple of “big fish” still out there.
Orgeron is continuing to get elite players to Baton Rouge. And that doesn’t appear to be changing anytime soon.
